Sorry, but for what I've heard and of course I can't find the bar-graph split, only the final result, a Tegra 4 reference tablet scored 36,458. The Shield scored 32,000 or so, but there are no details anywhere yet (probably press is under NDA still until the product is out)

The Shield has 2 GB of memory and the A-15 cores are more efficient than the A-9s, plus 6x the pixel/vertex shaders compared to the Tegra 3 (although still not using unified shaders because they didn't want the hit of power and performance meaning the power is there but developers have to use the Nvidia OGL extensions to fully utilize the GPU)

What it all means if they had more memory (8GB like that slate) is that the mobile SoC is as good to the mobile Intel chip, with less power requirements.

Still they are around 6years back compared to a desktop PC. But imagine your computer 6 years ago with a battery backup to last for 5 hours while gaming and now you can carry that with you.

My favourite phrase on one comment in an article regarding the benchmark you referred to was:

"So a plane can fly higher than a train"

First Tegra 4 device to hit the market

Toshiba Excite Pro

http://us.toshiba.com/tablets/excite/Pro/32gb

$500 - $20 instant savings
Not sure what frequency it's running (would guess 1.8GHz instead of the Shield's 1.9GHz since it doesn't have an active fan/heatshield because it's a tablet)

About the Shield, might get it next week since the unannounced date seems to be July 25th.

Yeah been keeping my eye on the excite pro looks like a good bet...but core is only 1.6ghz. EDIT : Amazon is wrong the pros are 1.8ghz.

Leaked spec of the new N7 is suggesting a S4 pro core which ain't no S600 but the openGL looks like a 100% increase.

Note : These are not N7 benchmarks just generic ones.

Only thing about the toshiba is that reviews always mention that it feels flimsy due to the thin plastic construction.
The shield btw seems to be 5x faster than the tegra 3, and the web browsing spider was on the 500s. Still few and hard to find benchmarks.

Edit: for the native resolution of 720p it outperforms the snapdragon 800. But on higher resolutions (1080p) the snapdragon 800 catches up due probably to a higher fill rate. So on a high resolution tablet like that it might be a wash.

PowerVR series 6 will outperform both but even if it was announced a long time ago, there has been no details. Maybe next gen ipad willl have it. They were claiming 60x faster than their current generation. And that would be insane!

Some initial reports surfacing of overheating with the Excite Pro...not good Emoticon

Our hopes may now rest on the HP Slate21 and Visio....then again a N7 V2 with twice the fps aint out of the running.

IMHO anything over 60-80 fps is a waste as i believe the eye doesn't notice the difference....you just need that minimum of 60 fps in the most demanding situations. In reply to miguelvp

4x times the GPU speed and twice the RAM? Sounds great to me. Of course, as soon as you buy it, DZ servers will go down for two days Emoticon I want to get my hands on one. If it's lighter and thinner, I don't see how I can't buy one. I'll give the "old" one to the kids.

Solid point Wing....Servers will definitely go down.

I'm curious to see how it does in the benchmarks. I'm actually very disappointed that they didn't put the Snapdragon 600 in it, let alone the SD800. Also, in comparing to the IP Mini, i cant get over the size of those bezels. But for a price point of $229......Bezel me up! In reply to wingnut

"While most of the tablet's specs are improved over last year's model, one of the most visible differences is its HD display. Our experience looking at the new Nexus 7 was very similar to the bliss that we had after seeing the Nexus 10's panel for the first time, only this one is of course smaller. Certainly, a pixel density of 323 ppi is pretty impressive, and we were quite impressed by the amount of detail we were able to see in the sample videos and photos running on the demo device we handled.

We loved how the Nexus 7 felt in our hands, especially since the original version was a good deal thicker. The 23-gram (0.8-ounce) weight difference is noticeable, too. Due to the thinner profile, we found that our hands were able to grasp onto the sides of the device a little more easily, so and we didn't worry about dropping it as much either (not that that was a huge concern with last year's model).

Under the hood, the Snapdragon S4 Pro chip is also a nice step up from last year's Tegra 3 SoC. Combined with the faster GPU, an additional gigabyte of RAM and Open GL ES 3.0 support, we're left with a far smoother gaming experience with plenty of subtle improvements to the graphics experience in particular. We'll reserve final judgment for our forthcoming review, but we were at least initially satisfied that this new iteration of the Nexus will perform better than the last (especially when it was updated to Android 4.2)."

...from ENGADGET first hands on review.

I find it strange they clocked it down to 1.5GHz where other phone/tablets have the SD S4 Pro running at 1.7 GHz, would be curious to know if they clocked the GPU down as well.

Also I guess they wanted the cost down, or maybe is because the S800 with the Adreno 330 GPU is not ready yet since it's going to be faster than the 320.

Btw, I think the Nexus 10 and the Experia Z have this beat but not on a 7" form factor.
The toshiba slates beat them too (but some overheating reports but not coming from a reviewer just some users), but again, no for this size tablet.

These are the reference Tegra 4 tablet results, The Shield will be under these values for what I can tell and the Toshiba tablets even lower due to them bringing the frequency down to what it seems to be lower than 1.8GHz by looking at the performance of some tests.

I think the S800 will be faster than the Tegra 4 implementations or at least very close to it

Mostly likely to get the 9-10 battery life (a 1-2 hours increase)...once its rooted some of the overclockers should work to get it back up there. In reply to miguelvp

Lookin promising Emoticon

Ran the fps app on one of the early versions of DZ and was getting 15-20 fps with dips into single digits in the chaos....looks like a low of 20 and average of 30-35 fps should be expected in 1080p no less!!!

Interesting though is my fps are 6-7...which is major suck big time Emoticon

Looking forward to that 30 fps next week Emoticon

Also don't forget the new Nexus 7 will launch with 4.3 that has OGL ES 3.0 support.

I'll post my benchmark result of the Nvidia Shield as soon as I get my hands on it Emoticon

The only review I found that benchmark indicates 19,683 for the 720p and 11,637 for the 1080p extreme.

http://asia.cnet.com/product/nvidia-shield-46729639.htm

The toshiba excite pro has way lower numbers: 11,288 at 720p and only 7,261 for the extreme as it currently stands on the results.

Something wrong with that tablet, I think they lowered the GPU frequency, or the shield has it upped because it has an active fan and a heatsink

Since the Shield's native resolution is 720p I'm gonna be happy with close to 60fps Emoticon

There is really something wrong with the Toshiba new tablet:
results on the left, the right ones is my transformer prime

And, new n7 has hdmi out, which is good news. Spawn, you can play on your TV.
I have to get one. Really excited.
Edit: I read that in android central but don't see it listed in the official specs. :-/

Yeah it does have HDMI out...which also means it should support screen cast (video recording)....so I'll be able to post some 'how not to play' vids Emoticon

HDMI out is via the micro usb standard port, don't recall the actual technical name for the adaptor.

I wonder if there are miracast recording apps for windows or other OS's.
but the screencast app shouldn't have any trouble on the 2013 N7 with the extra power.

I also wonder if Mad Catz would make a clip that will hold the N7 for their upcoming CTRLr that supports bluetooth smart (the 2013 N7 supports it too I think)

It will bring the controller latency from 100ms down to a single digit (heard 7ms) it also has a mouse mouse mode so you can interact with the screen without touching it, but you have to use a switch to change the mode.
