Anyone with the older Nexus 7 or new N7 2 find it difficult playing SG DZ with those bezels? Thinking of getting a new device for DZ if the factory reset on my Galaxy Tab 2 doesn't do the trick to fix the lag. Crazy?
I'm 5'8" and have medium sized(?) hands I guess. With my SGS4, I have to reposition my hand to reach up/down on the screen when using it for general usage. Gaming isn't a problem on it.
for the most part, most playing on the N7 in GZR are playing with a controller.....Wing is trying the controller route out too, but he plays touchscreen in our GZR syncs. Those bezels ("love handles" may be the cause of what's jacking up Wing's hands. lol
I definitely prefer the touch controls on the n7. bezel isn't an issue. if anything its nice to have a place to hold. I'd imagine the new one will be even more comfortable because it's thinner and lighter. I'm sure it beats the hell put of playing on a phone.
So, maybe because of the Nexus 7 it seems 3 phones leaked in the benchmarks:
Sony xperia Z Ultra (2 different models) and a Galaxy S4 with the snapdragon 800 and the Adreno 330 GPU.
The Sony phones have a 6.4 inch display! and I think it's water proof too. But without subsidies it will cost a pretty penny ($800)
These are the regular results, can't press the button for the extreme results but you can click on the individual devices to find the details if you have the 3DMark benchmark installed:
I'll just put the results of the top device:
It does come a bit under what the Shield will do, I think it comes out at the end of the month (correction, Q3 this year) but not sure how long until you can get it from your carrier and what carriers will have it.
The Galaxy S4 800 actually did beat the Shield on the GFXBench results off screen, but since the Shield is only 720p it does better on screen.
Next contender will be the PowerVR series 6 (rogue) but that's not due till Q3 this year.
Tegra 5 was demonstrated too with full OpenGL 4.4 support and supported by Unreal 4 engine, but that wont be available until the end of next year most likely.
Yeah, it's a Tegra 3 (Although you could upgrade the chip if another better QSeven module is available) But this puppy can take a GK107 board with kernel support already in place, That means you can put a GeForce GTX650 (384 CUDA cores or 4 times the GPU of the upcoming (next year) Tegra 5 GPU giving it close to 900GFlops of power) on it. Of course the video card can be upgraded later and if you can write drivers you could even put a Titan board on it.
For storage, no problem it has a Sata connector and well. This is what Nvidia used to show off the Tegra 5 concept (but with a lower gpu card)
Maybe next year after my daughter is out of the house freeing up some time I will get something similar. Pretty much it's an upgradable Android PC board that fits on a mini ITX case and adding a power supply that matches the video card that you place in there.
And of course the CPU can be x86 based if you don't want ARM, so I guess you can throw almost anything to this board.
As for the CPU being a Tegra 3, I have finally overclocked my tf201 to 1.6 GHz (EZOverclock apk) but even stock the 4 cores are barely used in the game. After I get my Shield I will download the montley kernel on my tf201 that allows to overclock the GPU from 520 MHz up to 650 MHz.
Of course it would need a screen with touch connected via the usb, etc.. It would be a fun but expensive project.
